What's the Word?

July 27, 2007

I can't believe the CD is finally done.  I eagerly anticipate the CD Release show at the Red Light Cafe here in Atlanta on August 18th.  Critics who've managed to get a sneak preview have really raved about it. Here's just one example, quoted from an Emory professor:  "The songs were simply remarkable.  The music has a wonderful balance of complexity, on the one hand, and accessibility on the other...You have a gift for reaching people musically at different levels at the same time--what seems at one moment to be simple, straightforward rhythms suddenly becomes more complicated, but not in a way that pulls one
away from the simplicity."

Come on out to the CD Release show and pick one up for yourself!!
Peace out!

The word is that Rob and I are mixing down.
At last count, it was 7 songs down, 5 to go.
An intriguing CD title struck me through divine intervention -
invoking the spirit of the relatively-contemporary mystic,
Howard Thurman.
Not sure about the jacket cover yet,
but I have faith that something will work out.
Hope you are all doing well.
Drop me a line sometime!
In the meantime, "Let's get together and feel all right." (Bob Marley)

Happy New Year to you!!! How've you been?
Things are going well with me and with the new CD.
We're about ready to start mixing down the tracks,
And I am in the midst of determining a suitable jacket cover.
Thanks to all of you who have been buying the older CDs
from www.cdbaby.com - they recently contacted me to ask me
to send them more copies, which means you've been buying!
I am so grateful for your interest and support!!
So when will the CD Release Party be for the new CD?
Let's say March. Yeah, definitely March.

Keep an eye out for an email from me!

Another month gone by...
And what've I got to show for the lapsed time?
I'm a few inches closer to the finish line of the new CD
I've been working on at Orphan Studios.
I am relying heavily on your patience, I know.
I just hope you won't give up on me.
So, as always, stay tuned for a CD release show date,
perhaps in January or February... or maybe March...

I've been away for a while. How've you been?
I've got a couple more gigs this month, and am otherwise
plugging along in the studio with Rob Gal.
When is the CD release show?? Probably in January, 2007. Stay tuned.

Is it just me, or is this country moving to... well, country?
Everything is cyclical, and I feel like I'm revisiting the late '70s,
They hay-day of Eddie Rabbit, Kenny Rogers, Juice Newton.
My soul's core shouts out its continuous cacophony:
"Where do I fit in? "

6/25/2006

It's true - we did it. We totally rocked Atlanta Pride.
Rob, Ryan, Mitch and I completely blew 'em away!
Ryan just let me know that we dazzled 'em so bad
we made it onto the 11 Alive local news.
Killer, man. Absolutely killer.
Thanks for all of you who were there,
especially the wild ones who kept shouting, "We love you, sue!!"
Trust me, I love you too!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for FEELIN' the LOVE!!!

6/08/2006

OK, here's the deal -
WeakLazyLiar and I have been practicing and rehearsing
real hard, and it's really important to us to see your face
at Atlanta PRIDE on SATURDAY, JUNE 24th, 4:00pm.
The Pride Festival Committee is giving us a real break
by letting us play the main stage this year.
Show you care. Show your face. Show your love. Show your pride.

Well, the youth pilgrimage fundraiser at Oakhurst revealed
a world of hidden talents.
Videotapes of the show are circulating in the underground.
Meanwhile I am really looking forward to Atlanta PRIDE,
coming up in a little more than a month.
I'll be on the Saturday mainstage, collaborating with my friends
from the local group WeakLazyLiar.
For more details, check out: http://new.atlantapride.org/ .

A friend and I got to talking yesterday.
We thought it would be fun to try having a regular Friday night
show brought to you live via web streaming.

We could call it witty world or something...
Stay tuned. Maybe we'll get that up & running in the next year or so...

3/25/2006

It's a hard rain's a-falling.
Thank God for friends like you
To pull me through my own meteor shower,
To offer shelter from the storm,
And to sing along at Java Monkey on a chilly Friday night...

3/12/2006

I began breaking studio ground today.
Stick around.
Something wicked this way comes...

3/09/2006

It will be a great honor to open for one of my heroes tomorrow night at Eddie's.
Lots of friends have promised to be in attendance.
I hope you'll be there. This show will be one-in-a-million.

2/25/2006

I have not seen the sun since September.
The rain reminds me of a steady burning ember.
If I had the means, I'd build a fire
To ward off the encroaching hypothermia...
A candle burns in my soul -
A torch I've carried for too long now.
If love was true, then I was too young to know,
And now a chill permeates this old woman.

2/14/2006

I jumped off a cliff last night.
You were out of view,
And I was missing you.

2/03/2006

Help??? I am in search of other local musicians with whom I can collaborate to create a cacophony of collosal choral casualties & catastrophies. If you know anyone who might want to rip it up with me - or maybe just form a duo, trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, or "large band" - please, please give me a holler. Real loud. Just bellow it out. I'll hear ya. Or shout out into cyberspace: scrappymusic@yahoo.com.

1/20/2006

Happy New Year to y'all!  Hope you're doing well.  I've been getting pretty pumped up about heading back into the studio with Rob Gal once again at the helm of the sound board.  We'll start layin' it down in March, so stay tuned!

12/08/2005

"Fall on your knees... Hear the angel voices..." That's how I felt at the Caroline Aiken benefit show at Eddie's Attic a few weeks ago. How could I be so lucky, to live in such a great town where so much unbelievable music resonates like a choir of angels on a nightly basis? Awesome!

And didja hear? Notorious Sue-B-Doo shook the Java Monkey this past Saturday. Where were YOU? Some of you were there, & we all had some whacked-out spin-the-bottle fun, didn't we now? Yup, sho did.

10/26/2005

Wow, the Chiaha Harvest fest was totally awesome!!  Perfect weather, perfect location, and a perfectly wonderful gathering of artisans and supporters-of-the-arts.  Thanks to everyone who attended!!!

So now the big news is the EDDIE'S ATTIC gig next Thursday, November 3rd.  I can't say enough about this show.  It's going to be monumental.  If you miss it, you'll be missing the gig of the century.  No, wait...  the gig of the millenium.  No, wait...  the gig of all times.  Yeah, so maybe I'm being melodramatic.  I just really want to see you there.  So be there.  OK?  See ya then!!!

10/21/05

Hey folks! Whatcha up to? I hope you'll come out to the Eddie's Attic gig on November 3.  This show is going to be unbelievably stellar, of utter zenith proportions.  Ben Wakeman, Blake Guthrie and I have all been working hard, crafting our songwriting techniques over the past decade.  Lots of work, lots of diligence and lots of road-tested perserverance can only equate to phenomenal quality work.  Please come out and listen to what we've produced just for you.

See you in the next couple of weeks!

Well, the verdict is out.  After a wild evening of pseudo-quasi-gangsta-rappin' at one of my favorite dives (Java Monkey), the universe compels me to change my stage name.  So be it.  From this day forward, I am no longer "Sue Witty" but rather "the notorious sue bee doo."  Maybe I'll just go by "B" for short.  I wanna give a shout out to the hoards of friends slam-dancin' at Java Monkey that night, and to all the wild chicks runnin' loose at the Wings and Strings festival last weekend.  You guys are far out.

Love you, man.  Mean it.

7/07/2005

Greetings, www.suewitty.com perusers! I have had an absolutely fabulous past several days—so good, in fact, that I almost feel guilty. Infinite thanks to those of you who came out to the Francesca's gig in Durham, NC to catch Nikki Meets the Hibachi ( www.nikkimeetsthehibachi.com ) and myself. Your presence moved me so deeply that I left Francesca's that night feeling absolutely 100% shaken and stirred—the perfect preparation for the delivery of a fun show at the Festival for the Eno the next day. And while I was at the festival, I was fortunate enough to hear Greg Klyma's set ( www.klyma.com )—an aspiring young singer-songwriter with whom my path first crossed back in the late ‘90s at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas . He's grown so much since then, and completely captivated and charmed the Eno crowd.

Peace out.

Sue takes it off!!

Late-breaking news: Outlandish singer-songwriter sue witty lost it all yesterday afternoon.
"I don't know what happened," she is believed to have muttered. "The day was going along like any normal day. Then I met some woman named Delilah. We talked for a while about routine stuff (love, war, the Philistines...). She asked me from what do I draw my strength in times of melancholy. I told her probably from my long hair, because I am able to hide my sad eyes behind my hair at my own will and pretend everything is fine. She said, "Lose the hair. Your strength must come from within or from above, but not from creature comforts, aesthetically pleasing attributes, or escape mechanisms." (She really said that. Delilah was one crazy chic--not afraid to lay it all out there.) So next thing I know, I am over at 'Fantastic Sams Hair Salon' with my hair wrapped in 5 ponytails and a woman next to me with scissors in her hands repeating some bizarre mantra: "Are you sure???" Seconds later I stare somewhat aghast into a mirror, witnessing an apparition of myself from over 2 years ago (when I shaved my head in protest to the war)...

I took it off. I took it all off. Come out to the MAY 21 gig at RED LIGHT and see!! I'll be opening for Atlanta's beloved and you-bin-gone-too-long WENDY BUCKLEW."

Connecting With "Indie Music For Life"

I was graciously requested to be a part of a new compilation CD called "IndieMusic For Life 2005," produced by Vicki Blankenship of North Carolina through her own "Indie Music for Life" organization. The goal of Vicki's organization is to raise funds for cancer research. This newly-released 2-CD set boasts 30 (count 'em!) talented and generous songwriters from across the country. To be included in such a fantastic repertoire blows my mind. The artists appearing on the compilation are currently coordinating regional fundraising concerts, including one in Atlanta later this spring featuring yours truly among the other incredible talents. To learn more about this worthwhile organization, the artists included on the compilation or TO ORDER THE CD, check out www.indiemusicfor life.org.
